Henry blinked awake, a beautiful dream lingering as his eyes adjusted to the light. It took him a long moment to realize why the dream felt so real. Leif’s body was draped heavily over his, Leif’s leg swung over Henry’s hip, his bare chest snuggled up against Henry’s back.

Flashes from the night before zinged through his mind: Leif’s hand around his cock, the cleverness of his tongue, the smell of him. Henry felt sore in all the best ways, and he carefully stretched while trying not to wake Leif, appreciating the smooth feel of the sheets against his naked skin.

Henry couldn’t believe that he’d forgotten this feeling: the languid warmth across all his limbs, heavy and at peace. He turned in Leif’s arms to place a gentle kiss against the man’s lips. He tasted salty and delicious.

Leif stirred in his sleep, a gentle smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, but he didn’t wake up. Henry pulled a lock of blond hair away from Leif’s serene face, tucking it behind his ear.

I could fall in love with him. The thought was as easy as breathing and Henry was struck by a sudden spike of fear. This is happening too fast. With Joseph, it had taken months before Henry knew they had something special. Had it ever been this intense? Henry couldn’t remember.

Easing out of bed, Henry tiptoed toward the door. Unable to resist sneaking another glance, he turned back to see Leif grumbling in his sleep, reaching for the side of the bed where Henry had been before stilling again. Henry smiled. At least it’s not just me.

Slipping on his cookies-and-milk printed pajama set that always made Kimberly laugh and some faded gray slippers, Henry tip-toed down the hallway. At the far end of the hall, Kimberly’s bedroom door was wide open, sunlight streaming through the pink curtains. A glance at the kitten clock on her wall confirmed the day had just begun, but she was already up and sitting cross-legged on her bed, her hands on her knees.

“Hey, pumpkin,” Henry called out from the door frame.

Kimberly looked up from her book and her giddy giggle burst out like firecrackers. “Daddy! Look!” She closed her eyes and reached out a hand in front of her. Her hand slowly turned transparent up to her wrist, fading completely after a moment before becoming visible again.

She’s growing up, Henry thought a little wistfully. “That’s wonderful, pumpkin! You’re making so much progress!” He took two strides to her bed, swooping her up into his arms to give her an enormous hug. She yelped, her concentration broken, and for a second she flickered completely out of sight, the solid feel of her in his arms the only indication she was there. A blink later, she was completely visible again, her face twisted in a stern scowl.

“You messed me up!”

He mussed her hair. “I’m very sorry for breaking your concentration. You were doing great! How do you feel about some celebration slash forgiveness pancakes?”

Her scowl disappeared, replaced by a joyous tinkle of laughter.
